I'm Daniel Mac Sweeney. I started Collin County Garage Door Guide to give Collin County homeowners straight answers when something goes wrong with their garage door, instead of a page of ads. My background is in building websites and online publishing: I'm also the founder of BlokStreams and OpenLenz.

I'm not a garage door technician, so I don't write from the job site. I research each guide from official and primary sources, such as the five cities' permit pages, the State of Texas, federal safety rules and industry bodies, link those sources so you can check them, and keep the guides up to date. When you need hands-on help, the site connects you with independent local garage door technicians.

Collin County Garage Door Guide is an independent local resource for people dealing with garage door problems in McKinney, Frisco, Allen, Plano and Prosper, Texas. We publish straightforward guides to common garage door problems, and we connect people who need help with independent local garage door technicians.

We're not a garage door company. We don't employ technicians or installers, and we don't carry out garage door work. We're also not affiliated with any city, county or manufacturer.

Why this site exists

When a spring snaps or a door comes off its track, most people search for help in a hurry, often on a phone with the car stuck inside, and are faced with a page of near-identical ads. Some of those listings are call centers with a local-sounding name, and quotes given over the phone don't always match the bill.

We wanted a site that answers the questions people actually have: what's likely wrong, what can I safely check myself, what should this kind of repair involve, does it need a permit in my city, and how do I tell a genuine local business from a lead-generation front. Where a local fact matters, such as a city's permit rules, we link to the official source so you can check it yourself.

How we write our guides

• Practical first. Every guide starts with a short answer, then walks through causes, safe checks and when to call a technician.
• Safety where it counts. Springs, cables and bottom brackets are under high tension. We never suggest you adjust them yourself.
• Sourced. Local and legal facts link to the cities, the State of Texas, federal safety rules or industry bodies.
• No invented claims. No fake reviews, testimonials, statistics or credentials. If we're not sure something applies to your home, we say so.
